Songs to tell her how you feel, a collaborative Spotify Play list – had to share.
“I’m tired of living my life by the rules of people who SUCK!”
Back in December of 2010 I made that resolution, and I didn’t realize that the very idea would bring with it such an exquisite change in my life. I am not the woman who began the year of 2010, the one I was at the start of that December, I’m not even the one who began this year, or the one who passed through the agonizing days of this Spring and Summer. As I sit here and write, I feel stronger, sure about the direction I’m going, more confident, and more filled with unconditional love than ever before.
If you’d told me a few weeks ago I would be capable of reposting those words, let alone own them, I wouldn’t have believed you, I couldn’t have. Being an eternal optimist, I’m thankful to once again see beyond the difficult moments, and, I know that the future will be better than the past.
So, I’m counting my blessings and find that my imperfect life is as perfect as it can be and I’m grateful.
I had spent a bit of time researching “women’s empowerment songs” and back in 2011 I created this playlist for all the Haters. In my life I’ve struggled with feeling powerless and directionless, being overwhelmed by health issues, my self-esteem has been rocked by circumstances of my life, and the funk that set in when I turned 40 then stayed for a decade; You see the whole empowerment thing has been in the fore-front of my thoughts for quite some time, it’s why I feel so passionate about coming up with a way to empower others.
These songs are about refusing to live life by the rules of other people, other people who happen to suck. Some of these songs are more like “breakup songs” but I think they work as empowerment songs because at the core they’re about about having confidence and self-esteem and not letting other people make you feel bad, or put you down. “People” have no right to tell you how to live your life, or how to be you, only you can figure that out. Figuring it out begins by examining your deepest desires, admitting what brings you joy and what brings you down then embracing one and letting go of the other, it’s about developing your passions and being true to your Self.
