Morning Iced Mocha’s

Homemade iced mochas

I’m not too proud to admit that my morning goes much better with a bit of chocolate and caffeine to start my day. In our current SET (stinky economic times) grabbing an expensive drink every day is out of the question so other options had to be explored.

Behold my new morning iced mocha! My version is much faster than going out for a drink and while it may not taste quite as sweet it’s much sweeter on my finances.

Morning Iced Mocha
2 TB. Starbuck’s Mocha Powder (or any sweetened cocoa is fine)
1.5 TB. Nescafe Instant Coffee (the richest instant)
Starbuck’s Simple Syrup (or powdered sugar) to taste
Vanilla Syrup (buy syrups on sale) to taste
Milk (low, non-fat, whole)
Ice

I start the water heating in the microwave then I build my drink. In the bottom of a heat resistant glass, I put the mocha powder, simple syrup (or powdered sugar) and instant coffee in the cup.

Fill the cup about 1/4 of the way with the boiling water (a little will go a long way), stir well to blend.

Next I add the ice, I fill the glass with ice and stir the hot mixture to cool it off; if you don’t do this your milk will get watery (yuck). Tip: it’s even better if you make your own sweetened coffee ice cubes.

Add a your syrups to taste, I add about 2 Tablespoons of vanilla syrup, you could try raspberry, hazelnut, mint, or a combination, whatever you prefer.

Lastly fill the glass with milk, stir and enjoy!
